I'm a freelance Illustrator and exhibiting artist based in Plymouth currently studying a masters in Illustration at Plymouth College of Art.
In my short time as an Illustrator I've worked with various individuals to produce editorial illustrations to accompany pieces of creative writing, articles, poems etc, while exhibiting work across the South West.
I've always gravitated towards work that sparks curiosity in the viewer and I try to take this on board with my Illustrations, deliberately trying to hide the deeper reflections that on the surface looks fun and light-hearted but on further inspection echoes much darker subject matter.
This was an illustration that was inspired by social stereotypes and they way we perceive other people around us without knowing them. I wanted to contrast the figure with the doodles that I'd often throw in to give my illustrations a sense of depth and deeper meanings while giving it a visual appeal. I didin't want to clutter the overall aesthetic and went for a less is more approach, using bold colurs and keeping the doodles to a minimum so they were clearly visible to make the contrast between them and the stereotype of the model clearer.
