As we move into January, we are pleased to be continuing with Jo McChesney’s exhibition for a little longer, This exhibition brings together works that demonstrate Jo's constant source of inspiration, the natural world, with trees, weather and water a recurrent theme. From the changing light of dense woodland, to starkly lit trees against a bright sky, her work often focuses on transient moments in time, such as ripples on water, or drawing attention to unnoticed fleeting happenings, the tiny explosions and drift of seed heads, carried by air currents. She uses collected drawings and juxtaposes these with memories of time and place. Often the images are not fully realised at the stage of carving and can evolve and change through the process of the cutting. Each print is burnished by hand which allows the soft texture of the wood to emerge. 'It has been such a calm, grounding presence in our main gallery; we’ve personally found ourselves drawn to the way Jo captures those "unnoticed" moments, like the soft drift of seed heads or ripples on water. There is a real sincerity in her process, where the images evolve as she carves, and we love that you can actually see the soft texture of the wood emerging where she has burnished the prints by hand.” Jo's exhibition will be hosted in our main gallery space whilst in our Courtyard Gallery we will be showing works of Brenda Hartill from her Retrospective Exhibition with us last July. Following a year where ceramics played a pivotal part in our exhibition programme, this exhibition shines a spotlight on some of our regular contributors, whose work spans the spectrum from traditional heritage craft to experimental modern form, highlighting the unique dialogue between the artist and the earth, featuring works that vary in texture, technique, and narrative: The Artists: •Adrian Brough: Bringing the rich tradition of St Ives pottery into a contemporary light, Adrian’s work is celebrated for its intricate slipware and stoneware. His pieces often feature fluid, nature-inspired motifs that honor heritage while maintaining a fresh, modern presence. •Jo Myerscough: Focusing on form and surface, Jo’s work often explores organic textures and the subtle interplay of light on clay. Her pieces invite a tactile connection, bridging the gap between functional craft and fine art sculpture. •Vicky Jackson: Known for her evocative and often narrative-driven sculptural pieces, Vicky uses clay to explore themes of memory and the human condition. Her work is characterized by its expressive detail and unique character. •Sara Evans: Sara’s practice delves into the structural possibilities of clay, creating pieces that balance strength with delicacy. Her exploration of glazes and finishes results in striking works that command attention through their sophisticated simplicity. •Jennifer Amon: Jennifer’s work is deeply rooted in the organic, often appearing as if unearthed rather than manufactured. Her hand-built forms and earthy palettes celebrate the raw, primordial nature of the material. •Rebecca and David Holley: Working in a creative partnership, this duo produces collaborative works that harmonize form and surface, blending intricate hand-built techniques with sophisticated glaze applications to create pieces that feel both timeless and contemporary. •Penny O’Brien: Drawing inspiration from the natural world and archaeological finds, Penny creates hand-built vessels and forms that celebrate the "perfectly imperfect," utilizing rich textures and weathered finishes to evoke a sense of ancient history and organic growth. From the precision of the wheel to the intuitive touch of hand-building, Celebrating Ceramics invites visitors to witness the transformative power of the kiln. This collection showcases how a singular material—clay—can be manipulated into vastly different expressions of beauty, utility, and storytelling. We invite you to join us at the Artizan Printmaking and Sculpture Gallery to immerse yourself in the textures and forms of these master makers as we celebrate the enduring allure of British ceramics. Celebrating Ceramics

Regular visitors to our gallery on Fleet Street will know that below the main gallery space we have a series of studio spaces where we are supporting local artists to develop their creative practice. For 2026 we have some new artists joining us - painter and printmaker, Wojciech Jaguzny, ceramicist Natalia Caballero, and printmakers Alexandra Robb and Grace Clifford. They will be working alongside watercolourist Olya Baklan and ceramicist Hannah Taylor who have both been with us for some time now. Each of the artists bring their own individuality and flair to their spaces and will be sharing the main gallery space with new works in this 3 week show, from dramatic abstracts, delicate watercolours, bold ceramics, detailed wood engravings and etchings, it is a show not to be missed. During the exhibition artist will be delivering workshops and demonstrations. We have other studio space available and welcome approaches from artists looking to develop their creative practice.

Since its debut in 2024, this showcase has grown into a highly anticipated part of the Delamore programme, establishing a dedicated space to celebrate the intricate, tactile, and masterful world of original print. Building on the success of our previous collections, the 2026 exhibition continues to challenge the misconceptions of the medium. Printmaking is far more than reproduction; it is a primary art form—as vital as oil on canvas or bronze in the round. This year, we delve deeper into the interplay between tradition and the avant-garde, featuring artists who respect the thousand-year history of the craft while pushing the boundaries of what is possible today. From the bold, graphic relief of woodcuts and linocuts to the atmospheric depth of etchings, lithography, and monotypes, the works on display represent a pinnacle of technical discipline. Visitors will explore a curated selection where every mark is a deliberate act of foresight, and every final piece is the result of a transformative journey through the press. Artizan Collective is proud to return to Delamore Arts for our third consecutive year in 2026. Since our partnership began in 2024, our presence within the historic grounds of Delamore has grown from a single showcase into a vibrant, multi-venue Stableyard Arts Quarter—a dedicated hub for contemporary British craft, fine art, and creative engagement. Based in the heart of the English Riviera, Artizan Collective is a social enterprise dedicated to championing the South West’s creative industries. Since 2014, we have worked from our home in Torbay—a UNESCO Global Geopark—to support hundreds of artists annually, managing cultural venues and providing essential platforms for both emerging and established talent. Our ongoing collaboration with Delamore Arts allows us to extend this mission, bringing the very best of regional and national creativity to one of the most prestigious events on the South West arts calendar. This year, Artizan Collective is delivering its most ambitious programme to date, transforming the Delamore Stable Courtyard into a destination for discovery: •Contemporary British Printmakers: Our flagship exhibition returns for its third year in the Carriage Room Gallery, celebrating the technical mastery and narrative power of original handmade prints. •The Kiln Room: Following its standout success, this dedicated space returns to showcase the "alchemy" of ceramics, from functional studio pottery to avant-garde sculptural clay. •The Old Workshop (New for 2026): Transitioning from a trial of "have-a-go" sessions into a permanent fixture, this dedicated space hosts a full month of curated exhibitions, workshops and demonstrations. •The Courtyard Shop (New for 2026): A brand-new retail experience for Delamore, showcasing "stockable" high-quality art products. From original textiles to handmade stationery, leather goods and more, it is the perfect place to find a unique, artisan-made treasure. •The Maker Takeovers: Located in "The Stalls," these rotating pop-up art spaces offer an intimate, ever-changing opportunity to meet the region’s finest artisans, watch live demonstrations, and buy direct from the creators. Artizan Collective at Delamore Arts 2026

It feels like a real privilege to be able to keep Brenda Hartill’s work with us a little longer as we move into the new year. Brenda has had an extensive career spanning several decades as an experimental printmaker and mixed-media artist, widely known for her richly textured, embossed works that abstract the essence of the landscape. Working across collagraph, etching, encaustic, painting, and collage, her practice is driven by a fascination with erosion, weather patterns, growth formations, and the universal organic forms found in nature. These themes are expressed through intricate layers of material and texture, often enhanced with silver and gold leaf, creating luminous surfaces that shift with the light. Originally trained in theatrical design at the Central School of Art and Design, Hartill’s early career in stage lighting and set construction informs her approach to light and structure. Her work has evolved from careful, figurative drawing to an expressive, abstract visual language, where layering and materiality are central to her process. She describes her approach as sculptural, building up embossed surfaces, cutting, collaging, and carving into materials before adding colour, resulting in works that are as much about physicality as they are about image. “We’ve found ourselves repeatedly drawn to the sheer materiality of Brenda’s work; there is something so atmospheric in how she uses her background in theatrical design to "stage" these geological abstractions. we never tire of seeing how the light catches those metallic-leafed surfaces and the intricate, embossed textures she creates. It’s been a joy to have these complex weather patterns and natural formations on our walls, and we are so glad we have this extended window to share them with you in a fresh setting.” Thursday - Saturday 10 am - 4 pm or by appointment until the end of January.

Within this collection, you’ll discover eight main designs, each bursting with personality, along with a variety of delightful smaller items such as plates, cups, bowls, and vases. The Artizan Women’s Open Exhibition returns for 2026, continuing its dedicated mission to celebrate, amplify, and champion women artists in a diverse and inclusive showcase. Celebrating International Women’s Day Launching on March 6th and running through International Women’s Day, this exhibition sets the stage for a five-week programme that acknowledges the unique journeys of women in the creative industries. By bringing together a curated selection of UK and international artists, the showcase highlights the extraordinary contributions women continue to make to our cultural landscape. At a time when conversations around gender, representation, and artistic equity remain as urgent as ever, this exhibition provides a vital platform for discussion, connection, and inspiration. Following a resounding success in their inaugural year, the Maker Takeovers return to Delamore Arts for 2026. This dynamic series of rotating mini pop-up artist spaces quickly became a favourite for visitors in 2025, offering an ever-changing showcase of the South West's creative talent. Hosted in the Stable Block, the Maker Takeovers ensure that no two visits to Delamore are ever the same. Throughout the month of May, we present a fresh line-up of artisans every few days, creating a vibrant, "micro-fair" atmosphere. This year’s curation features an eclectic mix of disciplines, including: •Fine Craft: Jewellery makers, leather workers, and mosaic artists. •Contemporary Form: Wire sculptors, ceramicists, and woodturners. •Traditional Media: Printmakers and painters working in a variety of styles. What makes the Takeovers truly special is the opportunity for direct connection. Unlike a traditional gallery setting, these spaces allow you to meet the creators behind the work.
