Michael MacDonagh Wood
I recently moved to the small hamlet of Chipley between Ashburton and Newton Abbot. I was born in London in 1952 and my father was the highly respected marine artist Peter McDonagh Wood. My studies at Hampton and Hammersmith Schools of Art provided me with excellent tuition in drawing and painting. I also spent a term in the U.S.A. specialising in photography.
I am particularly interested in painting architecture and water so Venice has been an enduring inspiration. I love the dilapidated surfaces of the grand palazzos reflected in the canals. I also enjoyed painting Havana and the vernacular architecture of southern France.I make watercolour sketches and take photographs as preparation for my finished paintings which are usually watercolours but sometimes oils.
