Martin Bush
A varied start to life, Martin Bush gained a BA(Hons) degree in Furniture Design at Birmingham in 1986 and on completion worked in a design studio in Shropshire as a junior designer. He soon felt stifled by employment and became self-employed, and from designing and building canal cruisers to furniture influenced projects he soon realised that this approach to life was much more inspiring.
During this beginning, he travelled extensively through Europe as well as Western USA and South Africa. Throughout, he was always painting or drawing, though without any great intention, creating not from what he saw, but more the passions that he felt.
In 1997 Martin felt an urge to travel once more and embarked on finding new experiences. He found himself in Asia, mainly in Thailand and its beautiful islands, but also Singapore, Australia and a little of Malaysia. This changed everything. He started to paint, buying canvases and oil paint from the local art shop in Pattaya, and plying them with his emotions, his ideas of life and his dreams, whilst soaking up the amazing culture. This world was so far away from his western roots, it felt like freedom.
This is where his life as an artist pure was to begin and 20 years on he has had success with clients from many parts of the world, and enjoyed drawing on all his life skills and experiences to succeed as an artist. Still travelling each year to Thailand, learning more of the language and soaking up more and more of its culture with amazement, he feels it is these experiences which go into his work. In his latest pieces, Martin believes he has found what he has been looking for, marking the launch of his "Jewel Temple" series.Mixed Media | Acrylic and Oil with Gold Leaf on Canvas
