Rosie Burns

Light and Life

Rosie is a painter and printmaker whose work explores water, skies, environmental musings, and the human form.

Rosie’s work is a vibrant exploration of light, life, and the interplay between humanity and the environment. Her portfolio spans two primary themes: the figure and the landscape, with additional fleeting moments of inspiration often sparking new creations. A recurring motif in her work is the helicoidal spiral—echoing forms found in DNA, shells, surf, and clouds—infusing her compositions with universal and natural patterns. Rosie’s art reflects on our relationship with the environment. Woodcut and collagraph prints investigates the effects of consumption on the planet, while her depictions of the human form challenge traditional gender roles, femininity, and masculinity, offering a thought-provoking lens on these themes in art. Her seascapes, landscapes and skyscapes celebrate her wonder of the natural world.

Rosie originally trained in Archaeological Illustration, earning a degree in Archaeology and Sociology in the late 1990s, she then qualified to teach Art and Design, working in various educational settings in the UK and internationally. Rosie exhibits with galleries through national and international open exhibitions, independent galleries in the Southwest, and also offers workshops and teaching to support her practice.
