Amanda Lyon-Smith
Amanda Lyon-Smith is an award-winning British mixed media artist, best known for her evocative seascapes, textured coastal abstracts and more recently her expressive, joyful still-life florals. Her contemporary paintings, rich in depth and layered meaning, draw inspiration from the raw, untamed beauty of the Devon coastline, where she enjoys breathtaking views along the Jurassic Coast. Amanda’s practice is rooted in intuition. Her creative process blends instinctive mark-making with an experimental use of tools and materials—from palette knives to found objects, often incorporating flotsam and collage, scraping, scratching, building, and revealing—to create pieces that feel alive with movement and memory. Each piece emerges with an intuitive sense of colour harmony and composition. Having shifted to a full-time professional artist during the first UK lockdown, Amanda has since developed a distinct visual language that resonates with collectors seeking originality, authenticity, and a connection to nature. Her work has been recognised with national awards and repeated selection for the prestigious London Flux exhibition. She has held seven solo shows to date and continues to expand her reach. Lyon-Smith pieces are held in private collections both nationally and internationally. Increasingly sought after by collectors and interior designers alike, her work sits comfortably in both modern and traditional settings, adding a joyful, vibrant, and uplifting energy to any space. She continues to explore new directions in her practice, balancing refinement with raw expression, guided by the shifting moods of the sea. Always offering fresh perspectives on the familiar but through an instinctive and authentic lens.
