Oil by David Shanahan
Large Cloud
David Shanahan
I've been drawing and painting since I was a child, and at the age of fifteen I attended Kingston school of Art in Surry, and later, as a mature student Dartinton Collage near Totnes in Devon.
On leaving Kingston I went to live in Cornwall, first in St Ives and then in Zennor and finally Hayle.
Like many artists, for a good part of my life I've had to work at a number of jobs in order to be able to carry on painting, and whilst living in Cornwall, some of included working on fishing boats and working down in the tin mines.
Since then I've lived in Devon and have been lucky enough to be able to be a full time artist. My work these days is mainly figurative, although I concentrated on landscape work for many years.
I work mainly in oil on board, and although I've tried acrylics, I don't really get on with them, and can't wait to get back to my beloved oils.
Part of a series where I concentrated more on the cloud itself rather than the landscape as a whole.
