Alexandra is a fine artist and printmaker. Her initial training was at Chelsea School of Art, where she studied fine art and later book illustration. She currently practices in Torbay, South Devon , having recently moved there from London, where she was born and lived most of her life. Alexandra’s work focuses very much on wildlife and the natural world. She finds great inspiration in her surroundings in Devon with a particular love for rocky seascapes and the bird life that inhabits them. Alex feels that bringing the beauty and variety of wildlife to the attention of people is an important aim within her work, as to understand an appreciate the natural world she feels is the first step to protecting it for the future. Alexandra works first and foremost as a printmaker, using both linoprint and wood engraving as her chosen mediums. She is also and painter and wildlife illustrator, undertaking commissions using principally watercolour. As a printmaker Alexandra uses principally linoprint, which she often combines with collage, to produce her unique signature prints. Her reduction linoprint, with collage elements ‘ Calm Before the Storm’ was chosen for the Royal Academy Summer Show , 2022 and featured in their 2024 calendar. As a wood engraver she often works with boxwood blocks and loves the way engraving enhances her love of fine detail and she enjoys producing art work on a small and endearing scale. She also promotes the practice of wood engraving by helping organise wood engraving courses in London and Northumberland, where it had its modern origins with the work of Thomas Bewick. Alexandra teaches linoprint to small groups and has worked for a number of organisations teaching both adults and children. They have included: Wildlfowl and Wetland Centre Slimbridge, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, The Wildlife Trusts amongst others. Alexandra is always happy to discuss undertaking commissions. Previously commissioned work has included pen and ink drawings, linoprints, watercolour illustrations and wood engravings.
