Maxine Lives in Torquay and is a member of several art societies including the Torbay Guild of Artists, Devon Art soc, Teignmouth Art Soc, Newton Abbot and Brixham art Societies.
She is a regular exhibitor with these groups and has won a host of trophies and awards at various exhibitions throughout the SW and is gaining a reputation for beautiful wildlife work.
She has also enjoyed international success having sold to collectors in
Canada and Scotland.
Althought not formally trained she describes herself as an enthusiastic and passionate, blending colours and using the right tones and passionate artists driven to create vibrant and interesting
paintings for others to enjoy.
She works mainly in oils and considers herself to be an instinctive colourist, blending colours ad using the right tones and complimentary colours to bring the painting to life.
Whilst creating element rather than “photo – realism” work she believes that the use of light and shade is paramount to bringing depth to the subject. Her chosen subject s often wildlife and so the challenge is to create the texture and allure of fur and feathers.
The she does with upon layer of deft brush strokes…. and plenty of patience!!!
The most important element of the painting however id the eyes, this will be the focal point of the painting and project and reflect the characteristics of the animal.
Therefore if the subject is a kitten the eyes should be heart-warming, wilts in a tiger should have an element of ferocity. The trick is to create a luminous quality that provides a magnetic charm that compels the viewer to keep looking.
This she achieves admirably.
