Springtime on the Moors
Tracy Fox
I am a self taught artist and started painting 16 years ago after I had developed a serious illness which left me housebound for a while. I found it to be a wonderful therapy and have been painting and exhibiting ever since. I currently teach painting to the elderly in some of the residential homes in Torquay. I am constantly amazed at how well they paint and feel privileged to be able to help them do this.
I moved to Torquay from Oxford 4 years ago and unfortunately had to put my painting on hold. I have just recently completed a new collection of floral landscapes.
Mixed Media is my preferred medium to work with. I enjoy combining acrylics, watercolours, pastels and various gel mediums to explore the way they come together. I like how this medium illustrates movement and texture and consequently works particularly well when painting nature.
My preference is to paint on large canvases as I feel unrestricted. My goal for my paintings is to inspire those who see them to be inquisitive and feel a connection.
I like to think that 'Springtime On The Moors' represents the antithesis between old and new. Whenever I visit the moors I feel the wildness and it's enduring sense of presence. Then when wild flowers appear in the spring the stark contrast is very evident. Rugged , strong weathered terrain of the moors against the soft, delicate and vulnerable wild flowers.
