Glass and Copper Wire Sculpture by Toni Fairhead
Rime Bowl Large
Toni Fairhead
Toni is a glass maker with a studio at Flameworks Creative Arts Facility in Plymouth. Having worked with a variety of mediums it is the alchemy, processes and unpredictability of working in glass that has grabbed her by the throat and won't let her go.
Her current work is asymmetrical, highly textured and displays an almost cold purity. She employs an unexpected combination of copper textiles and the Pate de verre (glass paste) process. The glass crystals reveal and reflect the copper elements creating a network that reunites and reconnects the whole.
Machine knitted recycled copper wire textiles embedded in multiple layers of ground glass and repeat fired. Asymmetrical, highly textured with an almost cold purity - from the award winning Rime series.
