- Open Art Event with Demonstrations
Join us for a wonderful evening on Tuesday 4th June 7.30 - 9.30pm, where some of our own Stoke Gabriel Art Group members will be demonstrating their skills. It's going to be a very special evening for SGAG, a first of its kind for us, and we would love you to come along, bring a friend, have a chat and see for yourselves what a great art group we have on our own Devon doorstep. Admission is free. There will be refreshments, and some artwork will be available to purchase on the night. About Stoke Gabriel Art Group (SGAG) Stoke Gabriel Art Group was founded in 1960 and is still going strong to this day. New members are always welcome and there's always an open invitation to come along and see what our art group is all about. We have art demos, weekly painting sessions and days out to experience en plein air painting. Workshops are also on the list for 2024/25. The weekly Thursday morning sessions are so popular we are thinking that we might need a loft extension in the village hall! So, what do we do on these mornings, well we talk about painting, do a lot of painting, learn some great tips about different mediums. And if we get stuck, there's always someone who knows how to sort things out. (Tea is on hand!) Critique sessions (always positive), still life sessions, artists showcase sessions, but these are not compulsory, many artists in the group just want to paint their own thing and beaver away at what they want to do. It really is an artist's choice morning. If you're only a beginner artist that's fine too. You'll have plenty of helpful tips and encouragement. And not only that, but we also have our monthly Tuesday night demonstration evenings, which are again, hugely popular. The demos are mostly Devon based artists who regularly demonstrate around the county using mediums such as oils, acrylics, watercolours. Information can always be found on the notice board situated in the Church House inn car park (opposite the Castle pub.) Information includes dates of our exhibition and all other events. Our website is currently having a facelift, but information is available. https://stokegabrielartgroup.wixsite.com Or just look for Stoke Gabriel Art Group on your media gadgets, including Facebook. - English Riviera Summer Open 2024
English Riviera Summer Open The English Riviera Summer Open is back and we've got two big reasons to celebrate... For the first time in two years, we can confidently say this wont be our last Summer Open as we're delighted to announce we've secured our home at Fleet Walk, Torquay! And as well as this, 2024 marks 10 years since we established our first gallery venue on the English Riviera, so this Summer is the perfect chance for us to celebrate both these milestones! About the Exhibition If you've exhibited in our open exhibitions before you know the drill, but for newcomers our annual, seasonal opens are the biggest, and most ambitious visual arts showcases in South Devon, as we turn the walls of our highstreet gallery into a tapestry of original art from creatives all over the country. The exhibition is selective but open to all, with our values for the showcase being: Diversity and Variety - we take a range of traditional and contemporary practice, selecting works that result in a showcase rich in media, subject and style; Originality and Innovation - this isn't an exhibition that just "plays it safe", we love traditional work, but equally we want to share work with audiences that they may not find anywhere else; Quality and Talent - we select the best to create a showcase for our audience where they can guarantee they'll be taking away collectible, original work that can't be found anywhere else. This year, we'll be celebrating 10 years of art on the English Riviera, with all proceeds from sales going toward an exciting new project for Artizan that we hope to announce soon. As with our last few open exhibitions, your fee will only be payable if you are successful in having work selected for the exhibition. We'll be taking fees at the point of submission, but if we don't accept your work on this occasion, we'll refund your fee in full. Based on interest, we have reinstated single entry submissions. Single entry submissions are charged at £10 but unfortunately are NOT refundable. Jenny Pery is the 2023-24 President of The Devonshire Association and will be hosting the symposium on Saturday 11th May 2024 at Petroc College, Tiverton. Finally, two acclaimed exhibition designers will discuss how art may be presented to the public in the most lucid and eye-catching way. - Artizan Women's Open 2024
2023 saw us curate our first Women's Open Exhibition, reflecting on some of the National Gallery's analysis of it's collections which revealed that in a vast 2,300 paintings spanning the 13th to early 20th century, only 21 are by women. In doing so, we participated in the ongoing conversation around the “gender gap in art history” and the experience of women artists today. Our stories and context were perhaps not as shocking as those of the National Gallery or of the London commercial galleries where a mere 5 percent approach a semblance of gender parity, but nonetheless, what rang true was the value and importance of this exhibition becoming a regular part of our calendar. As such, we're excited to be revisiting the Artizan Women’s Open Exhibition as we invite submissions to the second installment of this new regular feature in our annual programme. In light of the popularity of last year's showcase, we anticipate this year that we will increase participation and welcome 30 - 40 artists showing a maximum of 4 works per artist. And having had to relocate the exhibition last year due to uptake, we will once again be hosting the showcase at our larger Fleet Walk venue. Interested participants should fill out the simple submission form by 26th April. There will be a £15 fee for selected artists with 35% commission taken on sales. - Contemporary British Printmakers - Browser Offer
Open Call Offer Artizan Collective CIC have been invited to curate a supporting exhibition of Contemporary British Printmakers for Delamore 2024 which will feature in their stable block exhibition area alongside regular participants South West Academy. As part of this, we have a limited number of “browser only” exhibition spaces available which we are pleased to be making available on a selective submission basis. About the Opportunity Delamore Delamore arts is an annual month-long exhibition that has been running successfully for just over 20 years. It attracts artists and visitors from across the UK with all works selected by a panel of judges to ensure and maintain a high standard of work. Whilst its focus initially was on sculptural works that are placed within the grounds and the house, 2D works have become an important part of the offer and adorn the walls in the main house salon style to compliment a supporting collection of interior 3D works that are placed there. Proceeds from the exhibition support a designated charity that is selected each year by Delamore. SWAc SWAc are regular participants occupying a second space in the stable block, a short walk away from the house. Their participation is seen as a valuable addition to the overall event, providing visitors with more to see and to choose from. Delamore regularly sees repeat visitors for whom this event is part of their arts calendar and many of those visitors come with the intent to buy. There is a café on site so most visitors will spend several hours and fully explore all that is on offer. Contemporary British Printmakers - Browser Only Offer This offer is designed to be an accessible offer for printmakers all over the country who may wish to take part in this exciting opportunity to be a part of one of the UKs core annual arts events. The offer allows you to submit up to 10 mounted and wrapped browser works with a maximum of 7 being selected for display in browser. Multiple editions of each work can be made available, or orders will be taken up to the maximum number of the print run on a direct shipment basis. What’s Included Exhibition of 7 mounted works in browser at Delamore Sculpture and Arts Trail 2024 Profile page on Delamore website Profile page on Artizan website Feature on exhibition hub page The deadline for submissions is 24th March with confirmations of success made by 26th March. Full Details Marketing Online The exhibition will have a dedicated online hub within our own website, and all artists will also have their own individual presence on the Delamore website. Additionally, every artist will have a dedicated profile created within our exhibition hub where they can list an unlimited number of works to be promoted to the Delamore audience that do not physically appear in the exhibition. All submitted works will be listed on our own dedicated exhibition page. Two images per artists will feature in the Delamore catalogue along with a brief artist statement. Other Promotion Supporting flyering, and extensive event listings, press inclusions and paid advertising are carried out by Delamore, and its long-running pedigree guarantees returning audiences. Artizan will support these efforts with its own campaign promoting their attendance and inclusion in this year’s event. Audience Delamore attracts an audience in excess of 6,000 annually with a consistent record for high sales both from the sculpture trail and supporting exhibitions. In continuing to evolve the event and promoting the new offers such as this, they show their commitment to growing audiences. With the highly selective nature of the Delamore offer, we feel that this is a unique opportunity to reach their audience of collectors. We have decided to focus on the medium of printmaking to make our presence there distinctive from the other elements, a valuable addition that we hope will appeal to their audience and allow us to build upon in successive years. The Space The space that we shall be using sits within the Delamore grounds and forms part of the stable block. The stable area has become well known for a number of years as hosting the Southwest Academy Exhibition. It is an adapted space, with white walls and beams, and whilst it is not a white box venue it is well-lit and characterful which we believe will work well with what we are proposing. Stewarding and Demonstrations Artizan will fully curate and intend to fully steward the exhibition but if any artist would like to spend a day or half day at Delamore that would be welcomed. All artists are welcome to attend the launch event. We plan to take a small press for any artist who would like to visit during the exhibition and offer small demonstrations of their practice. Availability of Work and Pricing - Artizan Collective will remain the sole representative for exhibited work for the period covering four weeks before the exhibition start date to four weeks after the exhibition closing date; any enquiries about exhibited work from outside the exhibition during this time must be directed to Artizan Collective, and any external sales during this period should be brought to our attention for appropriate commission to be negotiated. Any work that has been submitted may not be withdrawn from the exhibition without the prior approval of Artizan Collective; buyers should be made aware that any work purchased may be required for the duration of the exhibition if removal would have a detrimental effect on the curation of the exhibition. Work may not be taken from the exhibition without prior approval for the duration of the exhibition – except in the case of a sale from the exhibition – and any sales of work for four weeks before and after the exhibition may not be advertised at a lower price than the exhibition prices; you may privately negotiate lower prices with buyers, but prices advertised on your website and in other exhibitions must not be lower. If work is found to be advertised at a lower price during this period, the artist will be required to update the price accordingly with 48 hours’ notice or Artizan Collective will seek payment of 33% of the difference in marked price regardless of sale of the work. Price parity is essential to building confidence in the commercial art market and failure to meet these guidelines will undermine the success of your exhibition as well as the wider work carried out by Artizan Collective and partners. Payment and Insurance Details of fees can be found in the exhibition call. Our preferred payment method is by BACS but we will also accept cheques or cash. Cheques payable to Artizan Collective CIC, by cash, or by BACS: Bank: NatWest | Account: Artizan Collective CIC | Account Number: 74950010 | Sort Code: 557001 Payment for Work Sold Artizan Collective CIC will notify you of any sale of your work as and when sales occur; all payment for works sold are settled after the end of the exhibition. - Melville Heritage Art Trail - Expressions of Interest
The residents of Melville are looking to continue expressing their story through art via the creation of a historical art trail. Through local expertise and community storytelling, a heritage narrative unique to the area has been created, and residents are looking for an artist to support them in bringing this story to life. The project continues an extensive piece of place making and public realm work that has been undertaken by Groundwork South Trust that is inspiring pride in the Melville community. The trail will: Tell Melville’s unique heritage story; Consist of 5-10 locations across the Melville area with a minimum of 3 core works at key locations, and up to 7 supporting works to create the trail; Incorporate a timeline that maps the trail at one of the core locations; Engage with and respond to an existing community mural delivered as part of the Melville place making project; Includes interactive elements that celebrate the community spirit and positive thinking of residents. The ongoing activity being delivered by Groundwork South Trust has enabled the community to explore various opportunities for creative interventions in the public realm. Whilst artworks will need to practically respond to a range of settings, it is anticipated that the existing programme has revealed opportunities for diverse interventions including installations on existing structures, interacting with street furniture, planters, noticeboards, hoardings and potentially windows and walls of private properties. We have a short window for receiving expressions of interest for this artwork commission opportunity, so we have endeavoured to make the process as light touch as possible for artists who want to make an approach. We would encourage any artist interested to reach out to us on 07762 921571 for enquiries related to this opportunity so we can best enable people through this fast-tracked process. - English Riviera Winter Open 2023
English Riviera Winter Open Our final exhibition for 2023 is upon us, the English Riviera Winter Open 2023. If you've exhibited in our open exhibitions before you know the drill, but for newcomers our annual, seasonal opens are the biggest, and most ambitious visual arts showcases in South Devon, as we turn the walls of our highstreet gallery into a tapestry of original art from creatives all over the country. This year, as part of our Summer Open we introduced our showcase values which guide the curation of our open exhibitions. These are: Diversity and Variety - we take a range of traditional and contemporary practice, selecting works that result in a showcase rich in media, subject and style; Originality and Innovation - this isn't an exhibition that just "plays it safe", we love traditional work, but equally we want to share work with audiences that they may not find anywhere else; Quality and Talent - we select the best to create a showcase for our audience where they can guarantee they'll be taking away collectible, original work that can't be found anywhere else. As always, we can't wait to see your submissions, and look forward to celebrating the end of an incredible year of visual art with you! Another change we introduced this year was that fees are now only payable if you are successful in having work selected for the exhibition. We'll be taking fees at the point of submission, but if we don't accept your work on this occasion we'll refund your fee in full. UPDATE: Based on interest from several artists, we have reinstated single entry submissions. Single entry submissions are charged at £10 but unfortunately are NOT refundable. - The Great Paignton Paint Out
Artizan Collective is delighted to announce a weekend of outdoor art inspired by plein air tradition, as with the help of ten professional artists, we take over the streets and seafront to show off this creative town like you’ve never seen it before. “Plein air” is French for “out of doors” so the tradition literally means leaving the studio to directly observe the landscape and paint outside. It’s a centuries old practice but was popularised by the French Impressionist movement and the desire to capture ephemeral qualities of light. But we’re talking plein air with a difference, and whilst we celebrate the work this painting tradition is synonymous with, we’ll also be welcoming a range of incredible artists with unique, contemporary outdoor practice. Spread over two days, a range of events will celebrate Paignton’s built heritage and start conversations about the creativity of the town. On Day 1, see if you can spot one of our artists creating live and find out about the buildings that have caught their attention. Then on Day 2, it’s your turn! Join us all on the seafront as we invite you to “Paint Paignton” with us. Whether you’re a pro, an aspiring talent, or have never picked up a brush before, this day is open to everyone to get involved. Bring your favourite art supplies or pick some freebies up on the day from our art station, and whether you’re a painter, prefer charcoals, or sketch on your iPad, it doesn’t matter, so long as you come on down to help us gather the biggest group of artists Paignton Green has ever seen. Get tips and advice, watch live demos throughout the day, but most importantly, create! The Great Paignton Paint Out takes over from 22nd-24th September but look out for artists popping up throughout the month or even have a go at “Painting Paignton” yourself. For tips on getting creative outdoors and to find out more about the full schedule of events, head to www.artizangallery.co.uk/paigntonpaintout The Great Paignton Paint Out is part of “Wide Open” a programme of activity curated by Filament Works CIC and supported by Tonic Creatives CIC. It is funded as part of Torbay’s Cultural Development Fund, a Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) fund, administered by Arts Council England. Dates and Event Schedule Day 1 - Painting Paignton: Artist Heritage Trail - Saturday 23rd September - 10:00-16:00 Discover Paignton's Heritage Through the Eyes of Professional Artists Eight artists take over Paignton to create new works on location across the town. Will you stumble across a couple of them, or walk the whole trail, discovering some of Paignton's heritage treasures along the way and seeing them through the eyes of unique contemporary artists. The "Painting Paignton: Artist Heritage Trail" starts from Paignton Sands before taking a route through the high street and around Paignton Old Town. There are eight artists to meet all painting at Paignton sites with unique stories. Walk the trail, discover the history, and see Paignton in a new light. Day 2 - The Great Paignton Paint Out - Sunday 24th September - 10:30-16:00 Take Part in a Mass Paint Out on Paignton Green Join us all on Paignton Seafront as we invite you to “Paint Paignton” with us. Get tips and advice, watch live demos throughout the day, but most importantly, create! Whether you're spending the whole day or just passing through there'll be plenty to discover all day. Four of our commissioned artists will be producing new works in situ with talks and demos on every hour. Visiting artists will be sharing tips and on hand to help, and you can drop of your completed works to our pop-up gallery where they'll be in with a chance of being exhibited in showcases following the event.
