'I don't intentionally position my work within a specific genre. There are links that I discover, and elements that I recognise as having a place, or that may have an influence on my work, or on how I see things. Work often stems from thought associations with specific places and environments, where a cognitive 'map' is formed during early stages of connection with a physical site. I am not concerned with reproducing an 'obvious visible' or a specific narrative, but an emerging invisible', that comes from the act of painting and drawing, and the dialogue that develops between the paint and painter. The drawings are part of a new ongoing work, Tracing Coast and Contours, a mapping project of the fragility of existence within the bio/geodiversities of the Geopark. It is a reflection on the sanctuary of rare plant species, diverse wildlife and geological structure and significance, afforded by the Geopark. Sense of self and place, connection and identity are important features in my work. The use of tracing paper is metaphoric. I work a 'cleanart studio' using water based paints and media, no solvents, and treeless or sustainable papers and canvas.
