Nightfall
Ruth Lyne
Like most people brought up in the midlands, I have always been drawn to the sea. The colours and textures of the coast have inspired my creative work for many years. The wide horizons and big skies of East Anglia can be found in my paintings alongside the delicate patterns found on a simple pebble.
Using acrylic paint, ink and graphite on canvas, paper or board, I make expressive gestures and marks to produce abstract images reminiscent of landscapes and seascapes. I use a range of tools to spread and scrape the paint but I rarely use brushes. I just don't like the marks they create.
Since moving to Suffolk in 2020, I am now able to spend time creating my own abstract language to express the beauty and calm I find at the coast.
