MR SAMUEL BAILEY-MERRITT
I have a passion for working with various media, including mixed media, digital art, photography, illustration, character design, and printmaking. My work focuses on visual storytelling. I use layered imagery and experimental techniques to create narratives that exist between reality and interpretation.
As someone with autism, I see the world through a strong visual memory and a keen sensitivity to detail. This viewpoint shapes how I create images. I often fragment, layer, and reassemble them to capture the complexity, disconnection, or unresolved nature of thoughts and feelings. I use a mix of analogue and digital methods to explore these ideas. Different materials and processes reflect that sense of tension and overlap.
My practice comes from a desire to make sense of uncertainties, visualise personal truths, and respond to wider social and cultural issues. I am especially interested in revealing what lies beneath the surface, both inside and outside, and in how visual language can express ideas that are tough to articulate in words.
Ultimately, my work seeks to create a space where viewers can connect with these layered narratives in their own ways. They can discover links between my perspective and their own experiences.
