Boats and Buoys
I work in a 19th century Sail Loft on Topsham Quay with boats & buoys outside my door on the Exe Estuary. I try to capture the changing patterns of the boats movements in all my work.
Ink/pastels make a cracked surface over vintage maps, navigation/astronomy charts and the reclaimed painted frames remind me of the boats sea-weathered hulls on the Quay outside. Maps/charts are also incorporated into my drypoint and monoprints.
I exhibit my work in Devon and the Scilly Isles. I have taken part in the Exeter, Doddisccombsleigh and Torbay Art &Green Hill Arts shows and Exeter/Devon open studios. I was featured last summer in ‘Coast’ magazine.
My work feels like ‚swatches‘ or sections of a larger pattern of boats - hence the name ‘wallpaper boats‘.
