Nigel Grist
Nigel Grist is a printmaker whose work spans a variety of techniques, including linocut, collagraph, drypoint, and etching, often combining methods to create layered, textured images. Some pieces incorporate chine collé, adding depth and nuance to his compositions. With a background as a biologist, programmer, and now a Dartmoor guide, Nigel draws on diverse experiences to inform his subject matter. His work frequently features floral and faunal elements, blended with abstraction and imagination, often inspired by microscopic cellular structures or marine invertebrates. Landscapes, particularly Dartmoor’s ancient granite terrain, also feature prominently in his prints. His art reflects the layers of history—Bronze Age relics, medieval remnants, and Victorian features—that define these environments. A constant goal is to represent layers of history: hidden and unseen, or visible but less obvious. Rather than precise representation he tries to reflect this layering while capturing the character, essence or ‘feel’ of a place.

Following a resounding success in their inaugural year, the Maker Takeovers return to Delamore Arts for 2026. This dynamic series of rotating mini pop-up artist spaces quickly became a favourite for visitors in 2025, offering an ever-changing showcase of the South West's creative talent. Hosted in the Stable Block, the Maker Takeovers ensure that no two visits to Delamore are ever the same. Throughout the month of May, we present a fresh line-up of artisans every few days, creating a vibrant, "micro-fair" atmosphere. This year’s curation features an eclectic mix of disciplines, including: •Fine Craft: Jewellery makers, leather workers, and mosaic artists. •Contemporary Form: Wire sculptors, ceramicists, and woodturners. •Traditional Media: Printmakers and painters working in a variety of styles. What makes the Takeovers truly special is the opportunity for direct connection. Unlike a traditional gallery setting, these spaces allow you to meet the creators behind the work. Visitors are invited to: •Watch Live Demonstrations: See the technical skill and patience required to create handmade treasures. •Hear the Stories: Learn about the inspirations and processes that define each artist's practice. Nestled within the picturesque Stable Courtyard at Delamore, the Maker Takeovers form part of Artizan Collective's activity, alongside The Kiln Room ,the Contemporary British Printmakers exhibitions, the Old Workshop and new for 2026, the Courtyard Shop. Whether you are looking for a statement piece for your home or a small, handmade gift, we invite you to explore, connect, and celebrate the extraordinary craftsmanship that defines our region.
