Angela Holmes
Angela Holmes is a sculptor and printmaker whose practice bridges the gap between three-dimensional form and tactile surface. After years of exhibiting large-scale outdoor stone and ceramic works, she currently focuses on smaller-scale sculptural ceramics and the complementary medium of collagraphy.
Her ceramic work explores the unique fluidity of clay, utilizing construction methods and the carving of thick, leather-hard slabs to echo the patterns of her previous stone carvings in a more lyrical manner. This sculptural language extends into her printmaking; using collages of found and recycled relief materials, Angela creates collagraphs rich in texture and subtle in color. These prints often serve as a laboratory for sculptural ideas, sometimes even transforming into three-dimensional forms that break free from the traditional frame.
Inspired by the coastal and moorland landscapes surrounding her home in Teignmouth, Angela’s work captures the organic and dynamic qualities of the natural world. She is an active member of the South West art community, including South West Sculptors, Granite Elements, and Make Southwest in Bovey Tracey, and frequently exhibits her work at TAAG (Teignmouth Arts Action Group).
