Copper Moon Jar

Caroline Aisher is a ceramic artist living near Dartmoor.  She continues to pursue her fascination with Silver Birch Trees and has been exploring new techniques and styles. Making sheets of bark out of clay to represent the bark which is left behind after the internal core of the tree has disintegrated back into the earth.

Moon Jars are hand built, the meditative process allows the potter to get totally lost in the mindful process of making them, bringing a closeness of the potter to each piece. The rhythmic motions required to create the Moon Jars takes on a deep bond between the maker and the vessel.  What starts out as a simple clay coil takes shape and morphs into a beautiful jar with curves and textures which are created during the making process..
