Torre Abbey Hothouse
Christine Durrant
After nearly 40 years of trying out many different forms of art in my spare time, I was finally able to give art my all when I retired in November 2024. It has been an incredible freedom and pleasure to indulge my creative spirit every day. My work has developed rapidly with the extra time I have been able to devote to it.
I am rarely to be found without a sketchbook in hand as you never know what the day will offer in terms of artistic challenge. I belong to two local art groups which allow me to mix with fellow enthusiasts and share ideas and talents.
My work has featured in exhibitions at Artizan, Torre Abbey and the Projection Room.
In November 2025, I joined forces with my husband Tim to hold an exhibition at the Projection Room in Paignton in aid of Rowcroft Hospice. We raised almost £600
I have recently returned from a holiday in Japan and am currently working on a series of paintings entitled ‘Inspired by Tokyo’
We find ourselves inside the hothouse looking up at the bright pink Bougainvillea and beyond it to a bright blue sky. The warmth of the colours used within the hothouse warm the viewer contrasting with the cool winter sky.
