After nearly 40 years of trying out many different forms of art in my spare time, I was finally able to give art my all when I retired in November 2024. It has been an incredible freedom and pleasure to indulge my creative spirit every day. My work has developed rapidly with the extra time I have been able to devote to it.
I am rarely to be found without a sketchbook in hand as you never know what the day will offer in terms of artistic challenge. I belong to two local art groups which allow me to mix with fellow enthusiasts and share ideas and talents.
My work has featured in exhibitions at Artizan, Torre Abbey and the Projection Room.
In November 2025, I joined forces with my husband Tim to hold an exhibition at the Projection Room in Paignton in aid of Rowcroft Hospice. We raised almost £600
I have recently returned from a holiday in Japan and am currently working on a series of paintings entitled ‘Inspired by Tokyo’
This small piece, just 20 cms x 20 cms on MDF board in a simple white frame (which brings it up to 23 x 23 cms) was created by first dropping alcohol into acrylic paint to provide a textures and patterns over which to work the final picture. Parts of the initial layer can still be seen around the top of the hill and behind the barn.
This is an imagined landscape where I have used shapes and colours that appeared in the experimental layer to inform and guide me in the subsequent painting. A rectangle of yellow suggested the barn roof, the blue patterns in the bottom section of the picture suggested water and there was a suggestion of a silhouette of a hill behind the barn.
Leaving the yellow rectangle as a roof didn't quite work artistically so I changed it to orange and then added some lines of orange along the shoreline and in the bushes to help guide the eye around the landscape
