R. J. Pearce
My work is rooted in a lifelong fascination with light, memory, and the natural world. I move between two distinct modes: one grounded in observation, through plein air and studio landscapes of the Devon coastline; the other abstract and intuitive, exploring cellular patterns and fluid motion. These strands are unified by a desire to pause time - to capture something fleeting and translate it into something enduring.
Having spent nearly two decades working aboard superyachts around the world, I returned to Torbay with a renewed sense of connection to place. That experience informs both my sense of scale and my attention to detail. Whether painting in watercolour or acrylic, I’m drawn to edges - crumbling cliffs, torn paper, shifting tides, or the fine boundary between chaos and control.
I create under the name R.J. Pearce, using the arts as a way to reflect, reconnect, and occasionally provoke. The work is personal, but I hope it invites others to see something of themselves - or their landscape - within it.
