Swaling Moorland Heath

Cherry Lyons is an experimental multi-media artist who is inspired by the rich tapestry of colour-drenched textures and the uniqueness of light of the South-West coast and countryside. This piece is Cherry's interpretation of the annual swaling on Dartmoor. Following a sketching and painting day at Haytor, Cherry passed and saw some of the aftermath of this year's swaling as she journeyed home. 'I could imagine the intensity of the fires as they swept through the gorse and heath.' Cherry has chosen acrylics to depict this scene as they react well to being layered and applied with her choice of tools; rags, fingers, palette knives, bits of card and the occasional brush.

Cherry has exhibited widely throughout her career and was delighted, in 2015 and 2016 to take part in the televised Sky Arts Landscape Artist of 2015 and 2016, and was selected as one of six finalists in the Devon Life Landscape Painter of the Year 2016.
