Beer Stone On Slate Plinth by Luci Coles
Selene (aka: Rock Bottom)
Luci Coles
I work as a sculptor carving stone and exploring drawing, ceramics and jewellery making as part of my practice.
I am most fond of limestone and the stone I am currently working with is reclaimed Beer stone, salvaged from a demolished building. I am told that after being quarried from the beds at beer, the first few hundred years of its life with humans was in the window and door frames of private chapel. Though, as with all stone, its sense of time stretches far further back than human memory.
My work references humankind’s relationship with our world, nature and the passing of time. I work with an awareness our transience in the vastness of time and space and the legacy.
