Oak Gall Ink and Modifiers by Caroline Collingridge
Mountains of Oak
Caroline Collingridge
I have been fascinated by the forms and colours in the natural world and have studied them in the past through music (e.g. the Fibonacci sequence in the music of Bela Bartok) and now I am trying to make my own pigments from lichens and trees. It’s always an experiment and I’m never quite sure how the finished artwork will look like, but that is the fun of it! Because of the increasing awareness of the climate crisis and the state of the world, I have been trying to waste less, pollute less but, at the same time, be generous and kind to myself and others. I thought that, if I use more natural products, I will still be able to make beautiful artworks without damaging any person or thing. In this series of paintings, I have been inspired by the landscape around Devon, using oak gall ink as the base.
