Large Textured Layered Pot
Jane Bark
I trained as a graphic designer BC (Before Computers!) and also worked on community projects and taught art and design at PCAD.
I started a Pottery course in January 2020 and loved it so much I decided to buy a kiln! Then we went into lock down! It was a life saver for me. Have been mostly self-taught, the Internet has been very useful and there is a wonderful friendly, helpful community of potters to learn from.
Clay is a very forgiving and incredibly versatile medium with endless possibilities. I am still learning about glazing and the use of stains, slips and oxides. I am finding my voice. My current series of pots were inspired by the work of the artist Jena Bedson. They are hand built, layered up slabs which have been textured with various mark making techniques. They are very tactile.
The sculptures I am working on at present are figurative and come from quirky ideas and odd inspirations.
I am a member of the Torbay Guild of Artists
