Jupiter
Marc Fresko
I make kiln-formed glass in my Northwest London studio. After taking BTEC courses in glassmaking, I am self-taught. I enjoy experimenting with the manifold variety of techniques available to glass kiln workers to achieve the effects I desire. My particular interests include using a variety of glasses and techniques to represent real-world objects; and working on ever-smaller scales (one installation for example consists of thousands of tiny cut pieces of glass and is only 70mm tall, albeit 4.5m long).
The fused piece is framed, and backed by electroluminescent paper, which shines a cold white light through the coloured glasses. This paper is powered from mains electricity (the necessary electronics are hidden in the frame); or it can be powered by AA batteries.
The piece is reminiscent of Jupiter, though it is far from a realistic representation of that planet (and still less of the space around it!)
