Fused Glass by Hilary Woof
Ingenous
Hilary Woof
Hilary Woof is a fused glass artist exploring the versatility and beauty of glass to create installations, wall panels, and practical pieces for everyday use.
The technique for this piece involves encasing bronze powder under clear glass over white to create various effects. This was started as a series of experiments initially as I had the powder left over from a sculpture course I did and was surprised how unusual and lovey the effects where. A thicker coating of the powder makes the glass black, thinner will be various shades of blue. A full fuse with a larger piece creates small areas of pink where the air doesn’t get through to the centre. I then create pebbles through basically smashing the initial piece up with a hammer and re-fusing. I then use these pebbles to create wall panels (as exhibited) bowls of various sizes and standalone panels. The result resembles some form of polished stone, almost like a form of igneous rock.
