Half Moon Island

I live in Devon and started painting 2 years ago, largely self-taught. I see magic in the natural world and love to recreate that magic so others can see it too. I mainly paint with oils as they blend so beautifully and allow me to work at my preferred, slow pace.

Inspired by the wonderfully twisted shape of this wrecked whaler's boat, the remains of the whaling days found on Half Moon Island (South Shetland Islands). Fiona Tonge captures the forbidding beauty of the place; the contrast between the dark volcanic rock and the snow, and the cold grey day.
