First Glimpse of Beach Huts at Preston

Avid sketchbook keeper, I draw a lot and it keeps me grounded. Currently I’m drawing around the edges of Dartmoor where I live, to my home town of Paignton, often from the car on a school run and all the places in between! I like to integrate landscapes, people sketches, food experiences and some quirky observations often creep in. I enjoy creating medleys of artwork that really give a sense of place.
After school I went to South Devon College to do Art Foundation and then began my creative career in animation, making short films for Channel4 and working on adverts and in childrens tv. A couple of highlights include receiving a BAFTA nomination 2003 for a short film I created called Wedding Espresso and I am mentioned in Animation, A World History Vol III.
I always felt a yearning to be an illustrator especially when I was animating thousands of animated images - Now concentrating on just one image is dreamy! I can pour all of my energy into a single image - but also having an eye out for animated possibilities.
I returned to Devon after thirty years away and now I find a renewed connection by sketching and painting the places I grew up in.
I love the moment you finally know you are near the seaside, from the road just catching a glimpse of the huts, you know you’re nearly there. Here is just a normal day in Spring, seeing the huts huddled together as usual, facing the sea, is somehow reassuring.
