Early Life Series

From studying molecules and microscopic animals from the sea and various planktons, I have evolved these forms, which as a group form a wall hanging. I have worked on marine aspects for up to twenty years, remembering vivid experiences of a period when I lived on a boat and was often sailing.

In these pieces I work by intuition, discerning the opportunities offered by chance effects. Tonal areas are made by applying chemicals while details are scribed into the metal and some areas are polished. A sense of pattern is prominent in the evolution of these natural designs and to capture impressions of the pulsing actions and movement of these live creatures, I apply coloured metals powders.
