Dartmoor The Big Sky 2
Jim Doran
After 35 years of practise I find that I have barely scatched the surface of this thing called Art but that's half the attraction. Art is certainly about the journey and not so much the destination and what a fascinating journey it is.
The poet John Keats said; 'nothing is real until you experience it' and I wouldn’t argue with that in the least it sounds right until you come to a place like Dartmoor and find, that while it is very real, it appears unreal, ethereal.
Everything on Dartmoor is so random, there is very little linear perspective here our everyday view on the world is replaced with aeriel perspective and you feel somehow closer to heaven. There’s nothing between you and the sky, just reach out and it’s as if you could touch the clouds. One of Dartmoor’s many gifts. There is no obvious design here, this is nature’s own design without any
apparent reason, law or limit. This is in all respects a different world. The atmosphere is hypnotic, still and calm, the noise, there is none, is noticeable only by its absence this really is the sound of silence. One of many features of the moor, like the Tors and the abundance of granite, strewn across the land, that gives Dartmoor its trademark ruggedness. This is all very different from the image in my mind, this is Dartmoor The Big Sky.
