While recognised primarily for my work as a Dartmoor landscape painter, my pursuit of abstraction has led me to revisit my longstanding interest in photography, particularly in experimental photography that offers a diverse range of approaches to explore.
One such technique is Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) photography, where the image is captured using a slow shutter speed with deliberate camera movement while the shutter remains open. Combining ICM with multiple exposures is a technique where multiple exposures can be overlaid to create an abstract, blended final image. For this purpose, photo processing software can be used to produce a single impressionistic photograph.
The images shown this exhibition have either utilised light sources such as bonfires, Christmas decorative lights or have been created in the landscape by exploiting low light conditions to enable the use of ICM. Furthermore, some have incorporated multiple exposure, blending and layering with post processing. In this approach, I have endeavoured to capture colours, textures, lines, or a prominent focal point to generate an artistic effect.
