Elisabeth Hadley
Though I was born and bred in Yorkshire I now live in Devon. In my studio I sculpt beautiful, graceful and sensual figures, which I then have cast into limited edition bronzes.
I studied Ceramics for my B.A at Bristol Polytechnic.
I then went on to study the figure at the Sir Henry Doulton school of Sculpture.
Between these years of studying I spent a year working as a model maker for Aardman Animations, during this time I was asked to be the voice of Wendy in the cult plasticine animated series; "Rex the Runt".
I have won several design competitions and worked on some large figurative commissions; The Dartmouth Mermaid and Man and Boy, Brixham.
I am inspired by mythology, Greek myths are found woven into my sculptures,
I live close to the sea and when not sculpting I will be out kayaking, I feel my love of being out on the water and so close to nature is what sparks my interest in all those ancient gods and goddess.
Standing on a granite base, this piece is a fine example of Elisabeth's skills in sculpting the human form. Ariadne, in Greek mythology, was the daughter of Pasiphae and the Cretan king Minos. She fell in love with the Athenian hero Theseus and, with a thread or glittering jewels, helped him escape the Labyrinth after he slew the Minotaur, a beast half bull and half man that Minos kept in the Labyrinth.
