Elisabeth Hadley
Elisabeth Hadley is a professional sculptor based in Brixham, where she has lived since 1997. With over 30 years of experience and a portfolio that includes both public and private commissions, her work is characterised by a deep sense of place, storytelling, and community engagement.
Among her best-known works is “Man and Boy”, a much-loved memorial to Brixham’s fishing heritage. Another, the “Little Mermaid Miranda”, greets visitors at the mouth of the River Dart and has become a regional landmark.
Elisabeth brings to her practice a passion for figurative sculpture, a commitment to traditional techniques, and a strong connection to the South Devon landscape.
For Elisabeth, this commission was personal. A long-time admirer of Agatha Christie and a proud resident of Torbay, she was inspired by Agatha’s love of the water, her pets, and her quiet moments of observation.
Where possible, Elisabeth sourced materials locally, reinforcing the community roots of this sculpture; Torbay, honouring one of its own, through the hands of another.
A display version of a commemorative edition of the sculpture available to view at Artizan Collective Gallery, Fleet Walk, just a short walk from the harbourside. This can be ordered as a limited edition cast in bronze.
Non=Refundable deposits can be made and delivery is 10 - 12 weeks.
