Gesche Buecker
Gesche Buecker is a ceramic and silversmith artist based in Preston, Paignton where she has workshops in her garden. Most of her ceramics are stoneware thrown on the wheel. Every piece is unique and all are vibrant – she loves colour and enjoys mixing glazes to achieve different effects. Apart from glazes, she uses wax, tools, slip trailing, decal images and lustre to decorate. For Gesche a pot isn’t just something to look at – texture and even sound when you make it ring all adds to the pleasure of owning a handmade piece of ceramics. Looking for a new challenge, Gesche began silversmithing in 2021 - initially intending to make a single ring, she was hooked and hasn’t stopped since. Drawn to the breadth of techniques and processes, Gesche relishes learning something new each time she steps into the workshop. After several years of evening classes with Sarah Vourda at South Devon College and gradually equipping a home studio, Gesche sought a further challenge and enrolled on the Diploma in Silver at Jewellers Academy in 2023, completing it in 2024. She now spends most of her free time making jewellery in one workshop and pottery in another. Like her pottery, Gesche's silverwork is bold and colourful. She creates one-off, bright statement pieces, working mainly in sterling silver (with her own hallmark at the Birmingham Assay Office), and she has a particular love of stones such as lapis, turquoise, labradorite, and coral.
