Claire Armitage
Claire Armitage creates prints to capture a sense of place and invite an immersion into the wild beauty of West Cornwall’s landscape, flora and fauna; with its hidden woodlands, sweeping curves of moorland and coastlines where the Atlantic Ocean meets the skies. Situated inland from the coast, Claire works surrounded by meadows and woodlands. She gains a deep sense of place by revisiting the same locations to draw and paint from direct observation, exploring the colours and fauna as they change with the seasons and time of day. Back in her studio Claire creates detailed botanical studies of the plants she’s collected. Gradually developing the compositions and colours for her prints, often layering the minutia of nature within larger landscapes. The process of drawing, carefully carving, and printing each linocut becomes a mindful immersion, grounding in the present moment, serving as a gentle yet poignant reminder of the profound beauty and delicate balance of the natural world, in which we are all interconnected.

Peninsula: The South-West Open 2026
For over a decade, our annual Summer Open has been a cornerstone of the Artizan calendar, bringing an incredible array of artistic talent to the English Riviera. This year, we are shifting our focus to explore a specific narrative dedicated to the unique spirit of our region. Peninsula: The South-West Open 2026 brings together national and local artists responding directly to the physical, cultural, and historic characteristics of the South-West. Grounded in the dramatic landscapes, tactile materials, and the legendary quality of light that defines the peninsula. Join us this summer to experience a visual journey through the South-West, celebrating the landscapes and light that inspire us. The exhibition will launch on 25th July 6 – 8 pm and run from 26th July – 4th September Wednesday – Sunday 10 am – 4 pm or by appointment.
