Artist Viv Spencer Viv Spencer is a printmaker based at Ocean Studios in Royal William Yard, Plymouth. Her practice focuses on collagraph, monoprint, and etching, drawing inspiration from sketches and photographs. The interplay between these mediums allows her to explore and evolve her work in dynamic ways. While completing her MA in Printmaking at AUP, Viv integrated digital techniques into her practice, with recent prints featuring laser-cut matrices derived from her own photographs and drawings. Walking is central to Viv’s creative process, enabling her to gather observations and inspiration. She is captivated by the transient beauty of weeds, the cyclical nature of flora and fauna, and the layered histories embedded in palimpsests. Her work reflects a deep engagement with the natural world and the unseen stories it holds. ← Previous Artist Next Artist → Filter Button Exhibiting Now Heading 2 Studio Artist Exhibition Record Contemporary British Printmakers on the English Riviera Following a successful month at Delamore Arts, Artizan Collective are pleased to be bringing their Contemporary British Printmakers Exhibition to their gallery on Lucius Street. From woodcut to etching, lithography to mezzotint, monotyping to mokulito, the variety and diversity of printmaking techniques makes it a near endlessly explorable art form, and one that has defined trends and tastes for centuries. As a practice and craft, it owes much of this evolution to the dialogue that grew between those that pursued its practical use as a tool for reproducing text and image, and the artists that sought to exploit the opportunities this bore for their own creative expression. Today, the spidering and innumerable tributaries that the practice has taken, lend their successes both to the worlds of modern publishing and printing and to one of the most exciting art markets of the 21st century. Contemporary British Printmakers 2025 is our second collaboration with Delamore Arts, bringing together printmakers from across the UK, showcasing original works and exploring a variety of techniques that span over a thousand years of the artform. The exhibition will sit alongside our Spring Sculpture Exhibition featuring works of Abi Higgins, Maria Moorhouse, Rosa Wiland Holmes, Philippa de Burlett and Almut Woolard. Artist Christina Elsworth I wanted to make something to celebrate the birth of my first grandchild. I am a printmaker and passionate about nature. The idea came to me to make a book which, whilst being for a child, addressed the decimation of wildlife in this country. Lenkiewicz is regarded by some as a great painter who is ‘finally being recognised as such after all these years of neglect by the art establishment, particularly by London, who would never have him. He didn’t really play the game as far as London commercial galleries were concerned. He did his own thing out in the provinces, which was looked down upon.’ He produced as many as 10,000 works (though this figure includes his prolific output as a pencil portrait artist),[4] often on a large scale, and in themed ‘projects’ investigating hidden communities (Vagrancy 1973, Mental Handicap 1976) or difficult social issues (Suicide 1980, Death 1982). In 1981, he faked his own death, announcing his demise to the local newspapers. When Lenkiewicz died in 2002, he left behind a particularly macabre legacy as the embalmed body of one of his friends, a tramp named Diogenes, was found in the cupboard section at the bottom of a bookcase. The Lenkiewicz Foundation (educational charity) was established in 1997, receiving the bequest of the painter’s remaining collection of works. The artist’s voluminous diaries, illustrated notebooks, and relationship journals are in the Foundation’s collection, which was shown at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery in 2009. Delamore Artist Sue Potter Influenced by her background in both graphic design and architecture Sue’s printmaking explores, the complexity and simplicity of geometry; the counterpoint between flat colour and the embossed surface; the visual playfulness of pattern and repetition; the use of component elements to construct dynamic radiating compositions. Recently she has been experimenting with cutting and folding the embossed surface to create an additional layer of texture and three dimensionality - captivated by the resulting, cast shadows that play across the surface.
