Working in Abstraction
Endeavouring to Express the Inexpressible
Artizan welcomes Exeter based printmaker Val Jones in the first if our series of solo shows at our newly relaunched printmaking and sculpture gallery on Lucius Street.
Val Jones produces Monotypes, Collagraphs and Etchings abstract in form and inspired by the landscape, drawing influence not from the accurate, descriptive qualities of an outside landscape but from an inner landscape that transcends description yet is highly expressive, being more concerned with a feeling for a place.
She described her Monotypes as the most painterly form of printmaking, each one unique produced directly onto a steel plate using inks and rollers, sometimes with the addition of chine collé or silver and gold leaf, with the image then transferred onto paper by being pulled through an etching press.
Her exhibition will be hosted in our main gallery space whilst in our Courtyard Gallery we shall be hosting the first of our seasonal printmaker open exhibitions. Each space will also feature specially selected 3D works from our seasonal sculpture artists.
Opening week Tuesday - Saturday 10 am - 5 pm Thereafter Thursday - Saturday 10 am - 5 pm
