Woodpecker on a tree carved from one piece of wood.
Derek Cadle developed a second career as a sculptor following a hectic career as a hospital consultant. He had spent 30 years closely involved in the development of Intensive Care Medicine in the UK and is a Distinguished Member of the Intensive Care Society. With such a background it is perhaps not surprising that his sculptural work is both detailed and figurative being human, animal and botanical. Sculptures are in bronze, wood, wire or mixed media. Work is quite varied and he is also known for his skeletal wire birds and large botanical pieces.
