Wild Spirits
Greta Vilidaite
I am an oil painter, climber, walker, and former neuroscientist based in Sheffield. I began painting in 2019 to regain mental wellbeing after developing severe burnout at my previous job as a researcher, as well as to maintain my connection to the outdoors.
A year ago, I left my job in a windowless Neuroscience laboratory to pursue art full-time. Since then, I completed an ambitious project in which I completed an oil painting a day for 100 days, and received a grant from Arts Council England to create a body of work on domestic animals, showcasing their human-like emotions and social connections. As an avid outdoorsperson I aim to evoke feelings of wanderlust, freedom, and adventure in my paintings. My work is guided by a persistent yearning for a simpler life outside of day-to-day worries and obligations.
