Madalen is a painter and sculptor in residence at Powderham Castle.

 

From her studio in the castle, she creates experimental works that celebrate the beauty of nature and female form.

 

To create unique pieces Madalen combines her award-winning background in fashion, graphic and prop design. Using oils, watercolours, woodwork, and found/reworked items her work aims to present a visual unification of nature and humanity, a reminder that humankind are a part of nature and nature is a part of humankind. To this end Madalen’s work often invokes folklore, which exists in the space between science’s explanation and humankind’s perception of natural phenomenon. The perfect synonym for human and nature co-dependence.
