OIl by Susan Cavaliere
The Ash Grove
Painter of informal and emotional abstracts.
Mythology, history, folklore and music are often used as inspiration for my work. I use these ideas to create and weave a narrative into my paintings. Much of the background and atmosphere are abstract in concept, with figures or subjects brought together with surrealism and fantasy.
Oils are my favourite medium working with mostly thin layers of beautiful colour and gradually increasing the depth to give translucent effects overall.
Some of my pieces, are worked onto wooden panels, sometimes waxes are used allowing me to add texture and deeper colours and occasionally do a bit of impasto to add interest.
My earlier years were spent living on Salisbury plain, near to Stonehenge, those iconic stones, sparked off interest in the myths and magic that surrounded this spiritual area.
Later on moving to London, I was drawn to the history of the Tower of London, its legends and all the stories associated with the old city.
In the southwest we have many fascinating legends, such as King Arthur, Tintagel Castle and tales of smugglers from Cornwall.
Art and painting began for me at the Salisbury School of Art, mentored by the expertise of professional artists and tutors, who gave their knowledge and encouragement in the use of media, colours and different effects for producing interesting paintings.
I have been involved with art for many years and now have the honour of being President of the Torbay Guild of Artists.
My work has been purchased internationally with buyers and collectors from Australia, USA, Far East, Europe and the United Kingdom.
