Vix Esben
Vix Esben is a contemporary abstract artist whose work explores emotion, healing and transformation through her use of vivid colours and textures.
Her practice draws on a rich background in jewellery making and a BA (Hons) in Fine Art Printmaking. Blurring the lines between artist and artisan.
Esben fuses traditional textile techniques with modern abstraction, bridging fine art and craft while celebrating the cultural and emotional significance of textiles in storytelling. Esben’s journey into painting began following the traumatic birth of her son. Painted in sporadic bursts under moonlight as her baby slept, her early works were raw and emotional. This intense creative process allowed her to express the complexities of motherhood, resulting in spontaneous, energetic works full of movement.
As a neurodivergent artist, Esben finds solace and focus in the meditative process of further transforming her paintings through slow, meditative embellishment: bold geometric embroidery stitched by hand, delicate beads sewn carefully into place and sequins acting as tiny reflections of resilience and perseverance.
These most recent mini works on paper were created as a celebration of spontaneity, energy and summer memories. These pieces are small, intimate and vibrant, and bursting with joy and playful energy.
Now based in Norwich - after growing up in Devon and studying in Somerset - she continues to develop her unique style: blending bold colours, intricate details and textile-inspired techniques to create art that is as much about touch and texture as it is about visual and emotional impact.
