Sara Budzik
Sara studied fine art at Bretton Hall College and attained a master’s degree from The Surrey Arts Institute, in 2001. She runs her current practice from a small home studio in Nottinghamshire and teaches adults pottery for wellbeing in community settings. Creating impressionistic sculpture, for interior and exterior spaces, showing work nationally. Sara draws inspiration from the natural world, working intuitively and playfully with clay to create elegant, soulful pieces that reconnect us to awe and wonder, reminding us that all lifeforms are precious.
Sara slab-builds around individually constructed formers, allowing her to treat the clay like a garment that is sewn together. She embraces the innate wabi-sabi nature of clay, allowing tears, cracks and holes to feature, integral to the work’s appeal. Additional textures and details evolve like miniature ecosystems. Sara preferring to leave raw unfinished porcelain, showing its alluring whiteness, the likeness to bleached coral intentional.
