Silver Birch Vessels
Caroline Aisher
Caroline Aisher is a ceramicist based near Newton Abbot working predominately with Stoneware Clay. She finds inspiration walking in the Devon and Cornish landscape and has an endless fascination with natural forms, light and contours.
She forages for Wild Clay and Minerals adding them to her work which helps to produce tactile textures. Her current focus is the creation of Silver-Birch inspired vessels which are made from Stoneware clay, using an off-white-coloured slip taken from the Wild Clay gathered on Dartmoor along with Isle of Wight Clay. Bisque fired to 970oC, the two clays react with each other creating unusual finishes which are then enhanced using oxides before glazing and a final firing up to 1250oC.
She has taken part in the last 3 Devon Open Studios and is a member of Totnes Potters. She regularly takes part in local Pop-up Shops, Farmers Markets and Craft Fairs.
