Shirley Kirkcaldy
Shirley Kirkcaldy is a landscape painter who lives and works on Dartmoor in Devon, England.
Her work seeks to capture the light, atmosphere and energy of the moorlands and coastlines of the southwest and it is these environments that are fundamental to her practice. Paintings have a deep sense of place lying at their heart and are rich in personal responses, overriding direct representation whilst recognising an authenticity borne of a specific location. In this her work is both expressive and of the moment. Once begun, paintings often determine their own direction and their own conclusion, with final images remaining open to viewer interpretation.
An academician with the South -West Academy of Fine and Applied Art, Shirley exhibits widely and her work is held in private collections at home and abroad.
