Restless Sky 1
Angela Rimmer
I'm an abstract painter working with acrylic, coffee, ink and restrained gold leaf based in Teignmouth, Devon, UK.
My practice is rooted in a deep connection to the natural world. It is concerned with thresholds - moments of liminal transition where perception slows and the image gives way to experience. I'm not interested in landscape as a view to be consumed, but in the conditions we move through and in-between states of arrival, pause and disorientation.
Materials play an active role. Working with ink introduces seepage, time, and unpredictability.
My paintings unfold slowly and are intended to be savoured - shaped by light, proximity and time. The viewer is held within the surface, encountering the painting as a place rather than an image.
Restless Sky is a series of original abstract ink works on paper, inspired by the raw atmosphere and shifting weather of Dartmoor, Devon. With expressive mark-making and raw ink fluid washes, the work captures the emotional impact of moorland skies — not in literal form, but through texture, contrast, and movement.
The series aims to convey the emotional landscape known by locals as a place of brooding beauty, ancient presence, and constant transformation. These pieces reflect that spirit, offering guests a visual experience that is both grounding and transportive
