Pathway Of Light
Pauline Rignall
Painting is a process of immersing myself in light and space. It is not a literal representation of reality but rather, an unfolding of a hidden order through the rhythm and balance of mark making.
The alchemical space of the empty canvas combined with the movement of paint is fed by dream images, the waking world, and the accumulated knowledge held within the subliminal memories of the body.
My early influences were through sitting as a model for Leon Kossoff (who studied under David Bomberg) and the life-drawing classes taught by Sargy Mann at the Camden Institute.
Light and atmosphere permeate this painting, the balance of tones, rhythm of marks and looseness of paint are what I am seeking.
