Paths and Wanderings Vessels
Kate Lyons Miller
As a maker, Kate is drawn to the elemental nature of clay—its weight, heft, its memory, its capacity to hold both time and touch. Within its surface lie traces of age and movement, a quiet dialogue between earth and maker. Her practice explores this dialogue, embracing the tension between fragility and permanence, utility and artistry. Whether shaped into a vessel that fits the hand or a sculpture that commands space, clay remains a living material—responsive, mutable, and deeply expressive.
In her workshops, Kate connects participants with the raw sources of this material: clay drawn straight from the quarry, minerals gathered along footpaths, the textures and colours of the land itself. Through these encounters, she invites a reconsideration of clay as more than medium—as a grounding presence that reminds us of the material world we inhabit and shape in return.
